Richmond KOA Holiday is a family-owned and -operated campground near Eaton, Ohio, conveniently located off I-70. It houses the Cardinal Greenway heqdquarters and a nice gift shop that was open when I visited. Its very well maintained but there are some tricks to accessing and using it. Take the time to read the background and a short ride on the surface road gives you a better look at the barn. I am not from this region and had never heard of these critters that can flourish in July and August especially in years when locusts also flourish. Also, to prevent use by motorized vehicles, many of the road crossing sport full-width gates with narrow openings at each side through which you must walk or carefully ride your bike. Losantville parking area is just off US35, 3.7 miles N of intersection of US35 and IN1; well marked and easy to find. Several miles outside of Muncie, you can take a short side jaunt on E CR 650 S to the Prairie Creek Reservoir. This trail is great for the beginner and the well experienced. It's like riding through an inhabited version of PA's desolate Great Allegheny Passage! Other sites provide a simpler experience with only water and electric hookups. Decades ago, a disused railroad line found new life, becoming the Cardinal Greenway, Indiana's longest rail-trail.But with some ambitious new projects planned, the newest member of the Rail-Trail Hall of Fame which is also celebrating its 25th anniversary as a trail in 2018is about to experience yet another rebirth.. No point deduction for this as it does not reflect on the trail, but hey, local Richmond folks the trail-link write up needs an update. The trail takes its name from the Cardinal, the passenger train that once regularly ran the route. I am impressed with the depot in Muncie, although must admit l am a Railroading fan for many years, l appreciate they kept in place the original mile posts along with many whistle posts as well. I asked a local who was jogging up the steps if this is where I get on. The trail should be a real screamer with a good tailwind!There are quite a few trailheads with excellent parking and latrines along the trail. I found the trail to be very nice. Hope you enjoy corn fields, and trees. I rode from sweeters switch to gas city. I started at the most northern point (which is just south of I-70), and noticed I wasn't at the most northern point. Bring your water bottles. To access the southernmost trailhead near Veterans Memorial Park: From I-70, take Exit 149 or 149A, and head south on Williamsburg Pike. The large maps at each trailhead (and there are several that are not shown on the map here) are very clear and helpful, providing mileages. You can park there and get right on the trail. The greenways are well-maintained praved trails suitable for biking, walking, roller blading and skiing during snowy times. Located just 90 minutes north of Indianapolis, Grant County is a quick exit off I-69 in East Central Indiana. Farther south, the McCulloch Boulevard trailhead allows for a connection to Muncies White River Greenway, which follows the trails eponymous river. Its not flat the whole way so if you want less challenging landscape, skip ahead to the D Street Trailhead. It's a really good trail, but there are just enough shortcomings that I hesitate to put it at 5 stars, particularly compared to trails I've been on in West Virginia and Pennsylvania earlier in the year. The bean fields were turning gold and were gorgeous and the corn was about half green and half dryed out. Lots of road crossings, but beautiful countryside. Our ride was stopped short due to a large tree blocking the pathway but we werent planning to go too much further. It is Indiana's longest rail trail on a former railroad line and benefits much of East Central Indiana. An 11.3-mile gap in the Cardinal Greenway currently exists from Jonesboro to Gaston due to private landowners acquiring the former rail corridor. Wrong Length -
This trail is a lot bigger than the site currently shows. That being said, the trail is wide, you won't need to skirt the edges. Bring plenty of water. I recommend jogging the bike across halfway at a time if it's a busier time of day. Everything else about this trail is exceptional.
